Service & Mission |
![]() Jesus said, “Go…,” and we take Him at his word. One of our core purposes is to go in mission to God’s world. It starts here at home. It extends across our nation and around the world — wherever God leads us to care for those in need and share the good news of God’s love and compassion in Christ.
Servanthood is at the heart of Christ and reflects the heart of who we are. It began with a local Habitat for Humanity project our first summer as a mission church. Today it includes ministries of compassion that reach from Hillsboro to Romania.
A Christian leader once asked, “If your church disappeared tomorrow, would anyone in your community shed a tear?” We are devoted to make a Christ-inspired difference in the lives of those around us. And we are devoted to put Christ’s love into action for the sake of others in our world.
We invite you to take a look and consider taking part.
Community Service
The Community Service Team (CST) is active every season of the year to equip and lead the people of ChristChurch in works of compassion for those in need.
The team provides opportunities for anyone to use his or her gifts and skills in community service. Participation in the CST is open to anyone who attends ChristChurch. Newcomers are always welcome to participate in all meetings and activities.
The projects undertaken are prayerfully chosen to serve the local community and the world in the Spirit of Christ. Guiding principles include projects focused on assisting with immediate needs—such as shelter, food, clothing and medical care—and which promote the self-sufficiency and dignity of those we serve.
We provide ongoing support to local food bank, help to support the Foster Closet, which provides clothing and supplies to foster parents in Wahsington County, prepare and serve meals at Faith Cafe' and are active with the Willamette West Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Annual projects include: a major fall food drive to help stock local food banks for the holidays, winter outreach to the homeless and a spring book drive for low-income children and families.
Missions
From the beginning we have felt called to reach beyond our local community. We support God’s work across the nation and around the world. We partner with proven organizations like Medical Teams International, Lutheran World Relief and Clean Water for Haiti. With our prayers and support, ChristChurch friends have taken the good news and love of Christ to the most vulnerable of our world in Central America, eastern Europe, Africa, the near East and India.
In our outreach, we value ongoing partnerships and building relationships. So for several years our high school students and leaders have partnered with YWAM San Francisco (Youth With a Mission) to help staff and resource a summer camp for inner city children there. It has been a life-changing experience for the children we serve and for the young people we send. We continue to search for ways to show God's love and share our God given talents with others in outlying areas of our community and world.
We also have a lasting, life-changing mission to the children of Romania. It began with improving the care of infants in the orphanages with Medical Teams International. We now partner with Heart of Hope Ministries International to reach out to older orphans and children from poor villages. Each summer we help send teams to Camp of the Good Shepherd. The team serves for two weeks and assists dedicated Romanian partners during summer camp. Together they offer the children a time of creative activity and fun and an opportunity to experience the reality of God’s love in Christ.
